ALEXIA PUTELLAS TO LEAVE FC BARCELONA FEMENI AT END OF CONTRACT AFTER 14 YEARS
Agency Report

Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas has announced she will leave FC Barcelona Femeni at the end of her current contract this summer, bringing an end to a 14-year spell with the Catalan club.
Barcelona confirmed the departure in an official statement on Tuesday, describing Putellas as the “eternal captain” who will close her chapter with the first team after a decorated career.
The 32-year-old midfielder said the decision marks the end of a “perfect story,” adding that she wanted to conclude her time at the club while still performing at her best.
“I’ve given everything I have,” Putellas said, noting that she chose the timing so she could leave with full energy and without regrets.
Putellas joined Barcelona in 2012 after spells with Espanyol and Levante, and has since become one of the most influential figures in women’s football.
During her time at the club, she won 10 Spanish league titles and four UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies, playing a key role in Barcelona’s domestic and European dominance.
She was also part of the squad that recently secured another Champions League title, completing a quadruple in what may be her final season.
Reflecting on her journey, Putellas highlighted the growth of women’s football, saying the sport has transformed from being largely unrecognised to filling stadiums with tens of thousands of fans chanting her name.
Her final home match for Barcelona is expected to be against Real Sociedad in Liga F.
Several other Barcelona players are also approaching contract decisions ahead of the summer, with potential departures and renewals still under discussion.
