A Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, has remanded 37-year-old nurse Kehinde Adesanya over alleged conspiracy, attempted abortion, and the murder of Victoria Ariyo, a corps member in Ogun State.
The 23-year-old Ariyo, who served with the Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reportedly died from complications linked to pregnancy.
Sources revealed that Ariyo was in a romantic relationship with the NYSC Local Government Inspector, Abass Olalekan, which allegedly led to the pregnancy and a termination that resulted in her death.
Olalekan was arrested and arraigned on Monday before Magistrate A. K. Araba on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempting to procure an abortion. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of N500,000.
The Media reports that on Thursday, 37-year-old nurse Kehinde Adesanya, accused of supplying drugs to Victoria Ariyo to terminate her pregnancy, was arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, attempted abortion, and murder.
The charge sheet against Adesanya reads:
- Count I: Conspiring with others between January and March 2026 at Ikereku, Laderin, Abeokuta, to commit the felony of abortion, contrary to Section 516 of the Ogun State Criminal Code, 2006.
- Count II: Attempting to procure abortion by supplying drugs to Ariyo, contrary to Section 230 of the Ogun State Criminal Code, 2006.
- Count III: Conspiring with others to commit murder during the same period and location, contrary to Section 324 of the Ogun State Criminal Code, 2006.
- Count IV: Unlawfully killing Ariyo, aged 23, by administering drugs for abortion, contrary to Section 319 of the Ogun State Criminal Code, 2006.
Police counsel Solomon Babalola requested the court to remand Adesanya, seeking an initial 60-day remand at Ibara Correctional Centre pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). He told the court that the offences occurred between January and March in Ikereku, Laderin, and that the drugs allegedly caused Ariyo’s death.
Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Sam-Obaleye approved the application, ordering Adesanya’s remand at Ibara Correctional Centre pending the DPP’s advice, and adjourned the case until May 26 for mention.
