FEMI AZEEZ SCORES BRACE ON DEBUT AS NIGERIA BEAT ZIMBABWE TO REACH UNITY CUP FINAL
Agency Report

Millwall winger Femi Azeez announced himself on the international stage in style on Tuesday, scoring twice on his Super Eagles debut to fire Nigeria into the final of the 2026 Unity Cup.
The 24-year-old inspired a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the semi-final at The Valley in Charlton, London, as Nigeria moved a step closer to defending the title they won in 2025.
Azeez, who enjoyed a standout Championship season with 11 goals and seven assists to earn EFL Championship Player of the Season honours, opened the scoring inside five minutes with a spectacular long-range effort from over 35 yards, set up by Terem Moffi.
Zimbabwe, who had drawn their last three meetings with Nigeria, including a 1-1 World Cup qualifier in March 2025, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s early intensity.
Moffi, captaining the side, again provided the assist for Azeez in the 63rd minute as the winger completed his brace to seal the win.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo also made his senior international debut, while coach Eric Chelle rotated his squad heavily, handing opportunities to several fringe players ahead of future competitions.
Notable absentees for Nigeria included Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi.
Nigeria will now face either Jamaica or India in the final scheduled for May 30 at The Valley.
