The Ghana Police Service has commenced moves to prosecute two Nigerian nationals arrested for allegedly murdering a fellow Nigerian, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, over a dispute involving suspected internet fraud proceeds.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after the 36-year-old victim was found dead in his residence at Sanzirigu in Tamale on Saturday.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Regional Public Relations Unit of the Ghana Police Service, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.

Police said officers responded after receiving a report that the victim had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.

Investigators who visited the scene discovered that the deceased had sustained a deep cut to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The room was also found ransacked.

A wooden pestle suspected to have been used in the attack, along with other evidential materials, was recovered for forensic examination.

“The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer before being deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” the statement said.

The police disclosed that intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects at Tatale while they were allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Togo through the Tatale border.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill the victim, claiming he had been withholding proceeds generated from their alleged internet fraud activities.

Police also recovered several items believed to have been stolen from the deceased’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables.

The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those connected to the crime are brought to justice and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support law enforcement efforts.
