GOV NAMADI SENDS ₦46.3BN SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET TO JIGAWA ASSEMBLY

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has commenced consideration of a proposed ₦46.3 billion supplementary budget for the 2026 fiscal year.

Governor Umar Namadi submitted the request to the Assembly for legislative consideration, with the proposal receiving its first reading during Wednesday’s plenary.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, announced the governor’s request after reading the communication before lawmakers.

According to the Speaker, the supplementary appropriation is aimed at promoting prudence, accountability and transparency in the management of the state’s financial resources.

He added that the budget review would enable the government to direct available funds towards programmes and projects expected to contribute to the socio-economic development and wellbeing of residents.

Following the governor’s request, the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Muhammad Dansure, moved a motion for the bill to be read for the first time. The motion was seconded by the member representing Kiyawa Constituency, Yahaya Muhammad Andaza.

The bill was subsequently read for the first time before the House adjourned its sitting to Thursday, September 24, 2026.

The proposed supplementary budget followed the Jigawa State Executive Council’s approval of a review of the 2026 Appropriation Law.

If approved, the ₦46.369 billion increase will raise the state’s total 2026 budget from the initial ₦901.8 billion to approximately ₦948.2 billion.
