The Kano State Fire Service has reported that five people lost their lives in 30 fire incidents recorded across the state in June, with property worth more than N120.4 million destroyed.

Despite the losses, the agency said it successfully saved assets valued at N481.8 million through timely emergency response during the period.

The statistics were contained in the Fire Service’s operational report for June, released on Monday by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.

According to the report, the service also handled seven rescue operations, recorded one false alarm and rescued three people from various emergency situations.

Reacting to the report, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to exercise greater caution when handling fire to prevent avoidable incidents.

“We urge members of the public to be careful when using fire and ensure that all sources of ignition are completely extinguished after use to prevent unnecessary fire outbreaks,” he said.

Anas also appealed to parents and guardians to closely supervise their children and discourage them from playing around puddles, ponds, rivers and uncovered wells, noting that such measures would help reduce drowning incidents, particularly among children and young people.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through prompt emergency response, public safety education and continued collaboration with residents.
