A Nigerian national has been deported from Indonesia after failing to provide immigration authorities with a valid travel document or residence permit.

According to ANTARA News, the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre in Riau Islands Province said the Nigerian was among two foreign nationals deported on Tuesday, August 18, through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang.

The authorities said the Nigerian violated Article 71(b) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law after he was unable to present the required travel or residence documents.

Before his deportation, he was held at the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, where immigration officials verified his identity and completed the necessary travel documentation.

An official of the centre, I Wayan Putu Wiadnya, described the deportation as an administrative measure against foreigners who violate Indonesia’s immigration regulations.

He said the process was carried out professionally, safely and in accordance with established procedures.

The Nigerian was deported alongside a Palestinian national who was found to have overstayed in Indonesia, in violation of Article 78(3) of the Immigration Law.

The Head of the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, Erybowo Radyan Asmono, said the deportations were part of efforts to enforce immigration laws and regulate the presence of foreign nationals in the country.

He stressed that all foreigners in Indonesia were required to comply with the country’s immigration laws, adding that violations would attract appropriate administrative measures.
