The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a marginal decline in Nigeria’s inflation rate, from 15.1 percent in January to 15.06 percent in February 2026.
The data is captured in the NBS Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for February, released on Monday. The CPI measures changes in the prices of goods and services across the country.
According to the bureau, the month-on-month headline inflation rate fell by 0.04 percent compared to January 2026. On a year-on-year basis, February 2026’s headline inflation was 11.21 percent lower than the 26.27 percent recorded in February 2025, indicating a notable reduction over the past year.

However, the NBS noted that month-on-month, the headline inflation for February rose to 2.01 percent, which is 4.89 percent higher than January’s -2.88 percent. This suggests that the rate of price increase in February was higher compared to the preceding month.
Furthermore, the bureau reported that the percentage change in the average CPI for the 12 months ending February 2026, relative to the previous 12-month period, was 21.03 percent—up 3.02 percent from 18.01 percent in February 2025.
The NBS data underscores a gradual moderation in headline inflation, even as monthly price pressures remain visible in certain sectors.
