Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has harvested fresh vegetables from her home garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, renewing her appeal to Nigerians to embrace home gardening as a means of enhancing food security.
According to a post by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on X on Tuesday, the First Lady visited the vegetable garden on Monday for another harvest under the Every Home A Garden initiative, which was established about two years ago.
The garden continues to produce a variety of vegetables, including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin.

After the harvest, Tinubu distributed some of the fresh produce to members of her staff, encouraging Nigerians to cultivate the habit of sharing with others and showing compassion.
The Presidential Villa vegetable garden was unveiled in July 2024 under the Renewed Hope Initiative to promote household farming and improve food security amid rising food prices.
The project was launched alongside the Every Home A Garden competition, an initiative aimed at encouraging women and families across the country to grow vegetables in their homes.

At the unveiling, the First Lady said the initiative was designed to demonstrate that even small household spaces could be used to cultivate nutritious food while helping families reduce the cost of feeding.
The garden features a variety of crops, including spinach, waterleaf, bitter leaf, scent leaf, ewedu, okra and lemongrass, and remains part of Tinubu’s campaign for healthy living, household farming and environmental sustainability.
