The Osun State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a public holiday to enable traditional religion worshippers across the state to participate fully in the celebration of the 2026 Isese Festival.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdul Rasheed Aderibigbe, on behalf of the state government.

The government said the decision was in recognition of the need to preserve and promote the cultural heritage and traditional values of the people of Osun State.

It added that the holiday would provide an opportunity to promote cultural awareness, foster unity and encourage greater appreciation of the state’s rich cultural traditions.

Governor Ademola Adeleke congratulated traditional religion worshippers across the state on the festival and wished them a peaceful and memorable celebration.

Adeleke urged residents, particularly traditional religion worshippers, to celebrate responsibly and in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining peace, order and mutual respect among residents throughout the festivities.

The state government called on citizens to use the occasion to promote peaceful coexistence and unity, while ensuring that the celebration did not infringe on the rights or safety of others.

The Isese Festival is an annual celebration of Yoruba traditional religious and cultural heritage, featuring various spiritual, cultural and communal activities.

The government expressed optimism that the 2026 celebration would further strengthen the preservation and appreciation of Osun State’s indigenous cultural heritage.
