UPDATED: GUNMEN ABDUCTS 50 STUDENTS IN AGWARA, NIGER STATE

Terrorists have abducted students and staff from St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The SSG disclosed that the attack took place in spite of prior intelligence indicating a high level of threat in some areas of the Niger North Senatorial District. In response, he added, the government had issued a security directive that ordered the temporary closure of all boarding schools in the area and suspended all building.
The statement stated, “Unfortunately, St. Mary’s School reopened and resumed academic activities without contacting or requesting authorization from the State Government, so exposing students and staff to avoidable risk.” In order to guarantee the safe return of the kidnapped students, Usman continued, security services have initiated extensive investigations and search-and-rescue operations. The public was also reassured by the administration that it is still in close contact with security forces and will keep them informed as events develop.
Authorities asked school proprietors, community leaders, and stakeholders to rigorously adhere to security warnings, stressing that the protection of lives—especially those of children—remains the administration’s primary concern. Additionally, residents were urged to maintain composure and provide security staff with any helpful information.
Local testimonies say that the attack happened between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Friday. The precise number of pupils abducted during a raid on the Catholic-run school is still unknown since records are still being assembled, according to community sources.
