NIS PASSPORT EXERCISE DISRUPTED IN MANCHESTER OVER ALLEGED PAYMENT DISPUTE

Nigerians in Manchester, United Kingdom, were reportedly denied access to a venue where the Nigeria Immigration Service was scheduled to process passport applications on Monday following an alleged dispute over payment.

The incident was reported by Nigerians who had gathered at the venue for the exercise, with posts on X claiming that the Lebanese owner of the facility prevented applicants from gaining entry.

The Nigeria Immigration Service had organised the exercise to clear outstanding passport applications and process renewals for Nigerians residing in the UK.

Some applicants said only a handful of people were attended to several hours after the exercise was scheduled to begin.

One applicant alleged that the venue owner told those present that he had not received payment and that there were no staff or security personnel available at the centre.

“He said he hasn’t been paid, no staff, no security. 3 people attended to in 1 hour,” the applicant wrote on X.

UK police were also reportedly called to the venue following the development.

As of the time of filing this report, the NIS had yet to comment on the alleged payment dispute or complaints concerning security and staffing at the venue.
