Eguavoen: Super Eagles Made Nigerians Happy In 2017, Can Reach World Cup Semis
Former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen says he feels excited that the team made Nigerians happy in 2017, Completesportsnigeria.com reports
Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, told Completesportsnigeria.com that the performance of Gernot Rohr’s team in the outgoing year which saw them qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was one of the best he has seen in recent times from the national team.
“Everybody happy with the Super Eagles in the outgoing year and I am sure that you journalists are also happy because you all had something good to report about the team,” for Super Eagles captain Eguavoen told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“They played their entire World Cup qualifiers without defeat though there were some games we were not happy about but when you look at the whole thing, you will agree with me that they made Nigerians happy in the year 2017 which you are talking about.
“I am sure that they would have learnt from all their mistakes in the year 2017 and ready to improve on them in the year 2018. The semi-final stage is a possibility for the team at the 2018 World Cup.
“I can only call on Nigerians to give the team more support in the New Year while I urge the players to work harder.”
Nigeria will play Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in the first round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
