NIGERIAN GOALKEEPER, AKPEYI JOINS KAZER CHIEFS
Nigeria international goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has joined top South Africa Premier Soccer League side (PSL) Kaizer Chiefs from fellow league side Chippa United.
Akpeyi move was announced by the club and it effectively bring his four year stay at Chippa United to an end.
Chippa United is the only team he has played for outside teams in Nigeria where he turned out for Warri Wolves, Heartland, Nasarawa United and Gabros International.
At Kaizer Chiefs, the 32 year old shot stopper will act as a stop gap option for South Africa international goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune who is out injured for the foreseeable future.
The battle for who will be first choice will no doubt be fierce between the duo when Khune returns from the injury lay off that necessitated the signing of Akpeyi, who was once upon a time, first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria.
Akpeyi has fallen down the pecking order in the Nigeria national team with the duo of Francis Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa now ahead of him in the ranking of Super Eagles goalkeeper by coach Gernot Rohr.
