Lionel Messi’s red card was one of the major highlights in the game that saw Argentina take revenge against their ‘task masters’ with a 2-1 win and a third place finish in the 2019 Copa America.

The barcelona forward set up Sergio Aguero to open the scoring for the Albacete before Juventus’ Dybala increased the goal tally to 2 with a beautiful finish.

However, few minutes before the end of the first stanza of the game, the two leaders of the teams, Messi and Medel engaged in a duel and the central referee wasted no time in dashing both captains straight reds.

Thhis would be Messi’s first red card in 14 years for club and country after he got sent off in his senior national team debut in 2005 where he did not last up to 2 minutes on the pitch before seeing red.

Messi’s colleague at Barcelona but rival in the game, Aturol Vidal pulled one back for Chile from the spot to end the game at 2-1 in favour of Argentina.
