2023: I HOLD NO GRUDGE AGAINST THOSE THAT DID NOT SUPPORT ME – ASIWAJU TINUBU
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has been named the party’s presidential candidate.
Tinubu who emerged at the end of the APC Special Convention and Presidential Primary Election Wednesday in Abuja polled 1, 271 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who garnered 316 votes.
The former Governor of Lagos state, while giving his speech said that he holds no grudge against those who did not support him but advised that they join hands to beat the opposition and beat back their retrogressive understanding of Nigeria.
Tinubu also spoke about the growing wave of killings in the country, saying; “We are not the barbaric, blind human beings they think we are. They are setting us against in another. When you were born, you didn’t hear from the womb whether you would be a male or female, Christian or Muslim. You were born to your parents and adopted their religions and you continued.
“The Bible teaches us to love our neighbor as ourselves. It didn’t say to murder your neighbor. It’s written in both of the sacred books. Thank you for your kindness. Learn to accept mistakes rather than blaming them on bullets or the destruction of lives and property, for the life you take cannot be replaced, and the hatred you spew cannot satisfy your desire. We need to create a new culture and learn to think in new ways.”
He praised all of his fellow candidates for their tenacious and vehement opposition, which he claimed improved the party and humbled him.
Tinubu praised all seven aspirants who stepped aside for him, stating that it was a difficult decision for them to make.
“The competition is now over. Those who did not support me, you have nothing to fear. I hold no grudges. Let us join hands to beat the PDP and beat back their retrogressive understanding of Nigeria. They had 16 years, they depleted our resources and left us with hunger. Let us dig their graves by defeating them in the next election because they are the agents of poverty, terror, violence and lying”, he stated.
“I didn’t expect to win, but I won, and I must be drunk by the triumph,” Tinubu remarked, apologizing to President Muhammadu Buhari for keeping him waiting with his long acceptance speech. “What am I supposed to do?”
President Buhari then presented Asiwaju Tinubu with the party’s flag, while Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma pushed for the convention to be adjourned indefinitely and Bello Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara state, seconded it.
