The ongoing trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect of the alleged murder of SuperTV boss, Usifo Micheal Ataga, has suffered a setback following the absence of her lawyer, Mr Onwuka Egwu, at the Lagos High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) annex, on Wednesday.

Chidinma is standing trial on charges of murder, theft, and forgery with her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and one Adedapo Quadri before Justice Yetunde Adesanya.

When the case was called, the prosecuting team led by Mr Yusuf Sule, announced their appearances while stating that the case was for cross-examination of the ninth prosecuting witness, DSP Olusegun Bamidele, by the defense and also continuation of the trial.

He also added that the first defendant’s counsel has fallen ill and needed to visit the hospital for treatment.

After listening to the counsel, Justice Yetunde Adesanya, vacated tomorrow’s date and further adjourned the case till 19th and 20th of June for continuation of trial as earlier scheduled.

On the last adjourned date, Justice Adesanya, had fixed June 14th for cross-examination of the police witness after Mr. Sule ended his examination in chief.

Chidinma was arraigned on October 12, 2021 on a nine-count charge preferred against her alongside two others by the Lagos State Government.

She and Quadri, are facing the first to eight counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, and stabbing while the third defendant, Egbuchu, is facing the ninth count of stealing an iPhone 7 belonging to the late Ataga.
