The Nigerian Navy’s attempts to acquire new platforms to increase its combat strength against criminals and unlawful activity within Nigerian territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea have been hailed by Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence.

This is stated in a statement made by Victoria Agba-Attah, Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence.

Matawalle said “The new acquired platforms would serve as enablers to increase the Nigerian Navy’s dominance and influence in the fight against crude oil theft, illegal refining, pipeline vandalism, piracy and illegal unreported unregulated fishing activities.”

He said the additional platforms would significantly increase the Nigerian Navy’s patrol capabilities in the recently created FOB LEKKI, FOB EKPE, naval base OGUTA, NOP TARKWA BAY, and NOP SHAGUNU, as well as the back waters and inland waterways.

The Nigerian Navy’s core values of honesty, professionalism, and teamwork, which the Minister charged the 1,865 trainees of Batch 34 to uphold, are the keys to success in any given assignment.

The fight against crime and illicit activity in Nigerian and Gulf of Guinea waters would be greatly diminished, he said, praising the work of the Nigerian Navy and adding that with sufficient trained personnel and the purchase of the new platform,
