Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye, a Nigerian national, passed away on September 4, 2023, while travelling to London for academic purposes. Her family has revealed her final arrangements, including the repatriation of her remains to Lagos on Wednesday.

The family has initiated a three-day burial programme, according to a statement released on Monday by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

Her sister, Mrs. Lola Olaniyi-Alabi, is in charge of the programme, and it states that the body will travel from Cairo to Lagos on Wednesday afternoon.

Following that, on Thursday at 4 p.m., there will be a singing service at Winners Chapel Ogba, Lagos, and on Friday at 10 a.m., there will be a burial at Matori Cemetery Ladipo, which is close to Oshodi Bus Terminus, Lagos.

According to Lola, the family has made the decision to return the late Remilekun’s body home for burial because Egyptair management has refused to take full responsibility for what happened to the passenger.

The family, according to her, has sent numerous requests to Egyptair and its management, but they have not even been willing to offer their condolences or take on the task of returning the body to compliance with international aviation regulations.

In the same vein, the management of Egyptair has declined to reply to a letter sent to it by NIDCOM requesting clarity and taking appropriate action for the family.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, NiDCOM, has prayed to God to comfort her ailing father and siblings in particular and to grant the departed everlasting rest. She has again expressed her sympathies to the family over this sad event.

On September 4, 2023, Remilekun, 41, unfortunately passed away while travelling to London for additional education on an Egyptair flight from Cairo.
