….Advance to the National Level of CodeAvour 5.0 International, Taking Place in Abuja on March 2, 2024.

A team of three students, Abdulrasak Habeebullah, Nasrudeen Abideen, and Rabiu Abdulmajeed, representing Al-Barkah Islamic Secondary School, Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, developed an application named ‘Al-Barkah Virtual Doctor’, during the presentation of a project titled ‘Strengthening the health infrastructure’.

Al-Barkah Islamic Secondary School was among the numerous schools that participated in the junior category of the regional coding competition, CODEAVOUR 5.0, that took place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State.

However, Codeavour 5.0 International is the biggest coding competition for students to foster creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills.

The competition, however, was carried out in three different categories, namely, elementary (7–10 years old), junior (11–14 years old), and senior (15–18 years old).

Speaking about the application, ‘Al-Barkah Virtual Doctor’, the team lead, Nasrudeen Abideen, said, “We are here to share with you one of the amazing apps we’ve built so far, named ‘Al Barkah Virtual Doctor’.

“The purpose of building this app is that we noticed in some rural or remote areas where there is no hospital, or there is a hospital but a lack of medical practitioners. If you have this app on your phone, the only thing you need to do is click on the app, and the virtual doctor will be displayed and a pop-up will welcome you. Then, ask about how you are feeling and what your symptoms are.

“The virtual doctor is going to pop up a text box where you can type whatever your symptoms are. After typing, you click on send.

“After loading, the virtual doctor will diagnose and prescribe medication for your disease.

Meanwhile, during a conversation with Mr. Saibu Saliu, one of the teachers at the school and the mentor of the students regarding the project, it was revealed that Al Barkah’s project was named among the five projects advancing to the national level in Abuja on March 2, 2024, adding that five projects each were chosen from each category.

“The regional competition took place at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State.

“And alhamdulillah, at the end of the rigorous and pressurized presentations and exhibitions, our project, Al-Barkah Virtual Doctor, was among the first five projects that won the ticket to participate in the national level that is going to take place in Abuja on March 2, 2024,” he added.

Saliu, while expressing his happiness, stated that the Islamic school had earlier participated in an online coding competition, powered by StackJunior Coding and Programming, in which five students from their school occupied the first to fifth positions.

He added that this gave them the opportunity to participate in ‘Codeavour 5.0’

“What gave us this golden opportunity was that we registered with StackJunior Coding and Programming, an international company.

“And throughout the last term (1st term) 2023/2024 academic session, five students from our school, Al-Barkah Islamic Secondary School, Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, top the list in Nigeria; they are: Rabiu Abdulmajeed JSS 3 with 2635 points (1st), AbdulRazaq Habeebullah JSS 3 with 2220 points (2nd), Bada Farid JSS 3 with 2090 points (3rd), Nasrudeen Abideen SS 2 with 2090 points (4th), and Bello Abdullah SS 2 with 2055 points (5th).

“To crown it all, Al-Barkah Islamic Secondary School, Ikare Akoko, is the only school from Ondo State that participated in the competition, CODEAVOUR 5.0.
