Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Moses Thomas Sule, a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, along with 14 former lawmakers, over allegations of money laundering and procurement law violations.

The arrests were made on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, by officers from the Commission’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate, following multiple petitions filed by concerned citizens in Plateau State.

Those detained alongside the former Speaker include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.

According to the EFCC, preliminary findings indicate that the lawmakers, who served a brief six-month term, received luxury vehicles valued at ₦2.5 billion from the state government for official use. However, at the end of their tenure, they allegedly failed to return the vehicles, despite multiple requests from the state authorities.

This situation reportedly compelled the state government to procure a new fleet of vehicles for the current House of Assembly members, costing approximately ₦2 billion.

The EFCC added that the suspects will be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded.
