In a bold step toward enhancing the quality of vocational education and service delivery, the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) on Wednesday organized a capacity-building programme for instructors across all its Skill Acquisition Centres.
Held at the Isheri Skill Acquisition Centre, the training programme was themed “Upskilling of Instructors in WAPA Skill Acquisition Centres for Improved Service Delivery and Innovation.”
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, the Director of Skills Acquisition and Development Unit, Mrs. Adejoke Oshodi-Olasukanmi, reiterated the state government’s commitment to building a skilled and innovative workforce to drive grassroots economic empowerment.
“Instructors play a vital role in shaping the future of thousands of Lagosians. Empowering our instructors with modern techniques and knowledge ensures that the quality of training delivered across our centres meets the evolving needs of today’s economy,” the Commissioner’s remarks stated.
The training featured specialized sessions in Information Communication Technology, Catering, Hairdressing, and Cosmetology, delivered by seasoned facilitators. These sessions were designed to equip instructors with updated, market-driven skills to enhance teaching efficiency and spur creativity and entrepreneurship.
Mrs. Oshodi-Olasukanmi urged participants to use the training as a springboard for innovation and productivity in their respective centres, thereby strengthening WAPA’s mission of sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
Directors from the Ministry and Principals of WAPA Skill Acquisition Centres were also present, contributing insights into effective programme oversight and implementation.
Participants lauded the initiative, describing the training as timely, insightful, and professionally enriching.
The upskilling programme aligns with the strategic agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to promote inclusive economic growth by equipping women and vulnerable groups with lifelong skills and pathways to self-reliance.
