FORMER EBONYI PDP CHAIRMAN, PROFESSOR AUGUSTINE NWAZUNKU, IS DEAD

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of its former chairman and 2023 governorship aspirant, Professor Augustine Alugbala Nwazunku.

Until his passing, Nwazunku was an Associate Professor and Consultant in Environmental Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

His death was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday by Senator Paulinus Igwenwagu, the PDP Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 elections. The party, in honour of the late professor, has announced the suspension of all activities and meetings scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025.

“On behalf of our leader, H.E. Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, and the entire Ebonyi PDP, we hereby inform you that we have again lost one of us a leader, dependable member, and former Caretaker Chairman of our party in Ebonyi State, Professor Augustine Nwazunku,” the statement read.

Party members have been invited to gather at Aristocrat Hotel along Ezza Road for a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.

Professor Nwazunku was a respected figure within the Ebonyi PDP, having served in various leadership capacities and contested for the party’s gubernatorial ticket during the last general elections.

As of the time of this report, the cause of his death has not been made public.
