The Lagos State Government has announced that the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will officially commence on Wednesday, July 2, and run through Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Examinations Board under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, which oversees the annual assessment of students completing Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) and transitioning to Senior Secondary School.
According to the Director of the Examinations Board, Mr. Orunsolu Adebayo, the BECE remains a key academic milestone for thousands of students across both public and private schools in the state. He assured that the board is fully prepared to conduct a seamless, transparent, and fair examination process.
Mr. Orunsolu called on students to approach the exams with confidence, emphasizing that their hard work and preparation will be rewarded. He also urged parents, guardians, and school administrators to familiarize themselves with the exam schedule and adhere strictly to all examination guidelines to ensure a smooth process.
“All necessary arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a successful conduct of the exams,” he stated. “We are committed to ensuring that no child is left behind or disadvantaged in any way.”
The government reiterated its focus on educational excellence and inclusivity, noting that the 2025 BECE will be conducted with the highest standards of integrity and supervision.
The BECE is a major step in Nigeria’s education system, certifying students’ completion of basic education and determining their eligibility to continue into senior secondary school.
