In a significant move toward bridging the digital divide and promoting youth empowerment, the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) held the graduation ceremony for the third edition of the Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada Free Computer Empowerment Programme on Monday, July 21, 2025.

The ceremony took place at the Senator Bayo Osinowo Hall within the Council Secretariat, Ikosi, and was attended by dignitaries, community stakeholders, ICT trainers, well-wishers of the graduands.

The ICT empowerment initiative championed by the Executive Chairperson, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, fondly known as Madam Projects continues to empower residents with essential digital and entrepreneurial skills for the 21st-century economy.

Delivering her speech at the event, Princess Bada expressed pride in the scale and success of the initiative, describing it as a transformational intervention. She emphasized that the program has grown in scope and impact, offering a wide array of practical courses such as Full Stack Web Development, Technical Engineering & Cinematography, Graphic Design & Animation, Creative Design & Brand Packaging, Desktop Publishing, Screen Art Production, and Administrative Management.

“This 3rd edition has been exceptional, both in scope and in impact,” she said. “Right here in Ikosi-Isheri, we now have newly trained web developers building functional websites, skilled graphic designers branding businesses, cinematographers shooting quality productions, and creative entrepreneurs managing digital content professionally. This is what good governance looks like turning potential into productivity.”

Princess Bada highlighted the strategic intent behind the program to position Ikosi-Isheri LCDA as a hub of digital talent and entrepreneurial innovation.

“This program is very dear to my heart,” she continued. “It is a deliberate strategy to raise people who will not just look for jobs but will create them.”

Addressing the graduands, she described their newly acquired skills as “keys to new opportunities,” urging them to multiply their knowledge and serve as examples of what can be achieved when government and community collaborate for development.

“You are now ambassadors of what is possible when government and community work together for progress,” she said.

She also assured residents of her administration’s ongoing commitment to scaling up the ICT programme and expanding its accessibility in her second term.

While speaking to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Sport Damilare Orimoloye, he said; “Information technology is a key sector that we all need to look into, it is an area that we all need to embrace. Having a local government Chairman looking in this direction is a plus, that is why we are here to give her the necessary support and to give the graduands the necessary support that is needed.

“I urge the graduands not to sit back after getting the certificates, get something to do with it. Solve problems in our society. There are a lot of problem youths can solve. When you go to Somolu, they will say it is a home of Printing, let’s turn Ikosi-isheri to a home of ICT too.

“Let’s solve problem in our society. Let people come from different local government to Ikosi-Isheri, to find solutions to information, and technology”. He said.

Meanwhile, one of the graduand Opeyemi David Agboola, a private school teacher who was trained in Full Stack well development talked about his challenge and his intention to cascade the training to his pupils so they can learn it at a tender age.

He said, “The only challenge I have is on transporting myself to this place. I am a teacher by profession. I already told my pupils that I will be replicating everything I haven’t learnt from creating a website, app, creating google form and more with them.

Agboola thanked the chairman for the opportunity to learn, he said, “I want to appreciate the Chairman for giving us the privilege to learn ICT at no cost. I want to say a very big thank you to the entire team of ICT department, for making it possible to give us wifi, system to work properly. I also want to thank the teachers for teaching us well. I want to pray that her work will cotinue to go on to improve Lagos and Nigeria as a whole”.

Another graduands, Olojede Ifedayo who was trained in Data analysis expressed how she felt to journalists at the event and the action she would take going forward.

“I feel really good about it because normally this would have cost me so much, but the Chairman made it easy for us by providing us the laptops, the data that we use.

“It was so seamless and the program is designed in such a way that if you don’t have a laptop, if you don’t have internet and all that, you can still take the training, so it was really good. I hope to pass the knowledge to other people”.

The event closed on a celebratory note with award presentations, testimonies from participants, and a renewed sense of hope for a digitally empowered Ikosi-Isheri.

With the theme “My Heart Is Where My Community Is”, the initiative continues to reflect the council’s people-centered approach to leadership and inclusive development.
