EX-BANKER DECLARES GOVERNORSHIP BID, LEADS DEFECTORS TO ADC IN EKITI

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State welcomed new members on Wednesday who transitioned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP). Notably, former banker Adeyinka Alli announced his intention to run for the governorship in the 2026 election under the party’s banner.
The individuals who defected gathered in Itapa Ekiti within the Oye Local Government Area, expressing their commitment to support Alli’s gubernatorial ambitions.
Alice Olorunwa, one of the defectors, remarked, “We hail from various parties—APC, PDP, LP, and the Social Democratic Party. Our choice to join ADC stems from our desire to support the gubernatorial aspirations of a fellow community member and philanthropist, Adeyinka Alli, on the coalition platform. ”

Dare Adekolu, the State Deputy Chairman of ADC, who accepted the newcomers into the party, assured them of the coalition’s readiness and strategic planning to secure victory in the 2026 governorship election to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the state.
In his announcement address, Alli stated his candidacy aimed to deliver the change that the citizens of Ekiti are seeking.
He noted, “Our populace is seeking transformation from the current state of affairs. I aim to bring about that change, which is why I am presenting myself. ”
“The economic condition of Ekiti is in a state of stagnation. Nothing is functioning properly under the current administration. The roads are in a state of disrepair. Numerous projects have proven to be ineffective. The governor is allocating Ekiti resources for over 3,000 Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants without defined job roles. ”
Alli, who asserted that he possesses the requisite experience to drive the necessary development in Ekiti, emphasized the importance of prioritizing educational reform, enhancing agriculture for food security, leveraging the state’s abundant mineral resources for tourism revenue, and focusing on infrastructure development and industrialization.
When discussing why the electorate should choose ADC, Alli stated, “The Biodun Oyebanji administration has put forth its utmost effort, yet I contend that it falls short of the potential that Ekiti possesses—its human resources, natural wealth, and all that we have. Grant us the opportunity to orchestrate a comprehensive transformation of Ekiti State. ”
He lamented that despite its considerable natural and human resources, “Ekiti State frequently makes headlines for unfavorable reasons such as inadequate roads and violence. ”
“Regarding the federal roads in Ekiti, which are in a state of neglect, the governor appears to be poorly advised. What was that advice? The guidance provided to the governor suggests these roads belong to the federal government.
Thus, they are to be ignored while concentrating on what is ostensibly your responsibility. However, what truly falls within that jurisdiction? These roads are traversed daily by our citizens. As a governor, prioritizing the welfare of your constituents should be paramount. If this consideration is overlooked, then what are we truly discussing? ”
ADC State Chairman, Omolayo Ilesanmi, commended Alli for “his choice to demonstrate to the world that he possesses the skill and capability to serve as governor of Ekiti. Without a doubt, he has all the necessary attributes; we will provide him with our support. ”
Ilesanmi solicited the backing of the Ekiti populace for ADC to fulfill its objective of liberating the state from the influence of the parties he claimed had stunted its development.
