The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 2,604,336 Nigerians have so far registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with youths making up the majority of participants.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Sam Olumekun, disclosed that the figure represents the combined outcome of Week Two of the online pre-registration and Week One of the in-person registration.
According to him, 2,532,062 citizens had completed the online pre-registration as of August 31. Of this number, 1,218,482 (48.12%) are male and 1,313,580 (51.88%) female. Youths aged 18 to 34 accounted for 1,602,484 (63.29%), while students made up 647,528 (25.57%).
Olumekun explained that online pre-registration must be completed in person at INEC’s 811 offices nationwide, where biometric capture is required to validate the process.
For in-person registration, which began on August 25, a total of 72,274 Nigerians have so far registered. The breakdown shows 35,622 males (49.29%) and 36,652 females (50.71%), with 54,718 (75.71%) aged 18 to 34 and 30,953 (42.83%) identified as students.
Registration centres are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, while full details of registrants by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been uploaded on the Commission’s website.
Commending the massive turnout, Olumekun applauded civil society organisations mobilising participation and described the enthusiasm of young Nigerians and students as the defining feature of the ongoing exercise.
