The younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, Ruth Otabor, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Ogun State.

A video circulating online captured the sombre moment, showing Phyna in attendance with fellow BBNaija Level 2 housemates, who came to support her during the burial.

Ruth’s death followed a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, when a Dangote Group truck struck her, causing severe injuries that led to the amputation of her leg.

Despite efforts to secure specialised treatment abroad and medical support from the Dangote Group, Ruth succumbed to her injuries on August 31, 2025.

Phyna broke the heartbreaking news on social media, posting a statement from the family lawyer: “With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at approximately 6:30 AM. The family requests privacy as they mourn.”

Recall that on September 1, a family source disclosed, “When she died this morning, the representatives of Dangote Group were contacted and notified. They later came and took the corpse to the mortuary. We are expecting that they take over the expenses of her burial, since they had stepped in to take over her medical expenses.”

The tragic accident sparked widespread grief and renewed public calls for justice and improved road safety. Shortly after Ruth’s death, Phyna deactivated her Instagram account on September 2.

The Dangote Group, in its condolence message, reaffirmed its commitment to safety and compassion: “At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”

Saturday’s burial brought a painful closure for Phyna and her family, as they mourn their loss while joining wider calls for stronger road safety measures in Nigeria.
