The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the mysterious death of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State.
The move follows growing controversy and public outcry after disturbing photographs of Akingboye’s corpse, showing bruises on his head, surfaced on social media.
Adding to the controversy, an overseas-based investigator, Olujimi Lijoka, alleged in a viral video that about N210 million was suspiciously withdrawn from the late politician’s account just hours after his death. According to him, N205 million was traced to three separate accounts.
“I am not a court, but this is deeply suspicious. We cannot fold our arms. I call on Ikale sons and daughters to rise and demand justice for Otunba,” Lijoka declared in the video.
Confirming the development, the Police Command in a statement on Sunday said detectives visited the residence where the body was discovered and cordoned off the area for forensic examination.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, to discreetly investigate the death of Mr. Bamidele Akingboye,” the statement read.
It added that a team of detectives, alongside forensic experts, deployed specialized tools and scientific methods to gather evidence and determine the true cause of his death.
