TWO ARRAIGNED IN EKITI FOR ALLEGEDLY STEALING COW, PICK-UP VAN

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men, 45-year-old Ojo Awe and 30-year-old Bello Taofeeq, before an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, Ado Ekiti District, for allegedly being in possession of a stolen cow and a pick-up van.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court on Tuesday that the incident occurred on September 9 at about 1:35 a.m. within the Ado Ekiti Magisterial District.

Oriyomi said the defendants were found with one live cow and a Ford pick-up van with registration number BDU632ZB, suspected to have been stolen, an offence punishable under Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Olusoji Oladele, prayed the court to grant them bail, assuring that they would not abscond.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and evidence of tax payment. The case was adjourned until October 28 for hearing.

It will be recalled that the same court, last week, granted bail to 38-year-old Felix Bamisaye, who was arraigned over alleged possession of a stolen Toyota Corolla. He was admitted to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties, and his case was adjourned till October 16.
