The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has confirmed a fire outbreak at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which houses one of its branches.
The bank, in a statement on its official X account on Tuesday, clarified that contrary to reports circulating online, its corporate head office at UBA House, Marina, was not affected.
“We are aware of the fire incident at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which incidentally houses one of our many branches. As against reports online and social media, the affected building is not the UBA House, Marina, the Bank’s head office,” the statement read in part.
UBA assured customers and the public that no lives were lost, adding that safety precautions had been taken to protect staff and clients at the affected branch.
The fire, which occurred in Lagos Island’s bustling business district, drew significant attention given the concentration of banks and commercial offices in the area. Emergency responders were reported to have acted swiftly to contain the situation.
The bank urged customers and stakeholders seeking further clarification to contact its official customer service channels, including [cfc@ubagroup.com](mailto:cfc@ubagroup.com) and 07002255822.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over fire safety in commercial buildings across Lagos following a string of recent outbreaks in central business areas
