LAGOS MATERIALS TESTING AGENCY ACQUIRES FOUR NEW OPERATIONAL VEHICLES
… As GM Hails Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Support
… Says Acquisition Will Enhance Construction Quality, Revenue Generation
In a significant move to enhance Operational Efficiency and Reinforcement of materials testing processes, the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) Agency has taken delivery of four brand new utility vehicles approved by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The acquisition of the vehicles, which were officially presented to the Agency on Tuesday, 16th September 2025 following a request by the Agency’s General Manager, Engr. (Mrs.) Olayinka Abdul, underscores the State Government’s commitment to supporting LSMTL’s critical mandate towards Public Safety and Revenue Generation.
The new fleet is expected to drastically improve the Agency’s mobility, and allow for more frequent and extensive monitoring, testing, and enforcement activities across all construction sites in Lagos State.
In her remarks, Engr. Abdul expressed profound gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his swift and positive response to the Agency’s needs.
She said, “This laudable gesture is a clear testament to the Governor’s unwavering belief in the LSMTL’s mission, to ensure that all building and construction projects across Lagos State adhere to the highest standards of safety and quality. It is certainly a monumental achievement and turning point for our operational capabilities,”
“These vehicles are not just means of transportation; they are mobile command units that will enable our teams to respond faster, cover more ground, and execute our mandate with greater seamlessness. The Governor’s support directly translates to safer buildings for Lagosians and a more robust contribution to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).” The General Manager added.
This timely intervention has set LSMTL on a high trajectory for its operations as a key revenue-generating Agency of Government, that is responsible for conducting mandatory integrity tests on construction materials and ensuring compliance with building codes. The vehicles will also make mobility crucial for the Agency’s inspectors to access construction sites, often located in hard-to-reach areas, for timely testing and monitoring, thereby preventing the use of substandard materials that could lead to building failures.
While expressing profound enthusiasm for the acquisition, Engr. Abdul reiterated “The acquisition of these vehicles is anticipated to boost revenue generation by increasing the Agency’s coverage and efficiency, leading to a higher number of tests conducted and improved revenue collection. It will further strengthen enforcement efforts against recalcitrant developers and builders who evade mandatory materials testing, accelerate response times to site inspections, ensuring that all materials used in Lagos State meet required safety standards, thereby safeguarding lives and properties, even as it improves the morale and productivity of field staff equipped with better logistical support.”
The GM averred that the acquisition further demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s dedication to infrastructural development and the safety of its citizens, fosters the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) as a regulatory Agency established to ensure the quality of materials used in all Engineering Constructions in Lagos State. This includes soil, concrete, and other building materials to prevent structural failures and ensure compliance with established standards, thereby promoting a safe and sustainable built environment.
