APC NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFIRM FORMER OGUN GOVERNOR’S MEMBERSHIP

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed that Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East, remains a legitimate member of the party.
In a letter dated November 17 and signed by APC National Secretary Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party responded to MJS Law Firm, led by Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, which had previously written seeking clarification over Daniel’s alleged suspension.
Prof. Oke, in a statement to journalists on Wednesday, explained that his law firm had contacted the APC leadership at the state, Southwest, and national levels, requesting the relevant documentation on the supposed suspension within seven days to avoid legal action.
The national leadership, however, replied two days before the deadline, confirming that Senator Daniel continues to be a bona fide member of the party.
“The party’s decision on this issue is final. The period for filing an appeal, as clearly stipulated in our constitution, has expired. If Daniel’s supporters wish to voice their grievances, that is their right, but it cannot alter the party’s decision. They are free to express their appeals on social media,” he said.
The party’s spokesperson made the comments in response to a press briefing held by some APC leaders from Ogun East at Daniel’s private residence in Asoludero, Sagamu GRA, where they criticised the senator’s suspension.
The APC leaders alleged that the suspension was part of a scheme by Governor Dapo Abiodun to sideline Daniel from contesting the Ogun East senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections. They also questioned why the party had not issued an official suspension letter, aside from press statements circulated to journalists.
In response to MJS Law Firm’s inquiry, the National Secretary reaffirmed that the former governor remains a full-fledged member of the party.
The statement reads in part:
“I bring you compliments from the National Secretariat of our great party and write to inform you that the Party has received notices regarding the alleged suspension of the Distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel.
Please note that the National Working Committee has not yet deliberated on this matter, as provided under Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.
Accordingly, you are requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate and take an informed decision on the suspension before issuing any further public correspondence. Until such a decision is made, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.
