Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has signed into law the N515.5 billion 2026 Appropriation and Finance Bills.
The 2026 fiscal plan, tagged the “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” is designed to strengthen ongoing reforms and scale up investments across priority sectors such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure and job creation, with a focus on enhancing the welfare of residents of the state.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Buni praised members of the Yobe State House of Assembly for their cooperation and dedication, stressing that the budget’s passage offers the necessary legal backing for the smooth implementation of government policies and programmes aimed at public benefit.
He revealed that lawmakers effected minor modifications to the initial proposal, adjusting the budget downward from N515.583 billion to N515.532 billion.
The governor explained that the amended figures show a slight cut in capital spending and a corresponding rise in recurrent expenditure, with N291.9 billion, representing 62 per cent, set aside for capital projects, while N223.6 billion, or 38 per cent, is allocated to recurrent obligations.
Governor Buni assured citizens that the execution of the 2026 budget would be anchored on accountability, probity, transparency and strict compliance with due process and fiscal discipline.
He further restated his administration’s resolve to maintain Yobe State’s record of prudent financial management, noting commendations from development partners and civil society groups such as SIFTAS, a World Bank initiative, and BudgIT, a budget-tracking organisation.
According to him, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, in collaboration with the Ministries of Budget and Planning and Finance, will continue to issue clear policy guidelines to ministries, departments and agencies to guarantee proper monitoring, evaluation and effective utilisation of the budget.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Ciroman Buba Mashio, reaffirmed the legislature’s readiness to sustain a cordial working relationship with the executive to ensure efficient service delivery to the people of the state.
