Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lauded Enzo Maresca following his exit from Chelsea, describing him as “an incredible manager and an incredible person.”
According to Sky Sports on Friday, Guardiola made the remarks ahead of City’s Premier League clash with Chelsea, expressing disappointment over the Italian’s departure.
“I think Chelsea have lost a good manager. From my point of view, he is an incredible coach and an incredible person. But it is the decision by the hierarchy of Chelsea, so nothing to say,” Guardiola said.
Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day, with the club naming Under-21 head coach Calum McFarlane as interim manager ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola’s comments underline the high regard Maresca enjoys across the Premier League, despite the abrupt managerial change at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea now face a stern test against Manchester City, with McFarlane taking temporary charge while the club weighs its options for a permanent managerial appointment.
