The Kebbi State Government has announced the reopening of all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, beginning Monday, January 5, 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday through separate statements jointly signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director (Academics) of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa.
The government recalled that schools across the state were earlier shut following the abduction of 25 Maga students in Zuru by suspected bandits, which prompted the closure of both public and private schools.
According to the statements, the decision to reopen schools aligns with the state government’s resolve to maintain a stable and uninterrupted academic calendar after the successful completion of the first term.
“All school administrators, education secretaries, principals, head teachers, teachers, parents and students are hereby requested to take note of this directive and ensure strict compliance,” the statement partly read.
The government emphasised the need for adequate preparations ahead of resumption to ensure a smooth commencement of academic activities in schools across both urban and rural areas.
School heads were directed to ensure the readiness of staff and facilities, while parents and guardians were urged to see that their children and wards return to school promptly.
“The cooperation of parents and guardians is critical to achieving the objectives of this directive, as punctual resumption will enhance effective teaching and learning,” the statement added.
A related circular also informed Zonal Education Officers, principals, head teachers and proprietors of private schools that the first week of the second term would be set aside for the conduct of outstanding first-term examinations.
According to the circular, normal classroom teaching and academic activities will begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, after the completion of the examinations.
The state government further cautioned that strict adherence to the approved resumption and examination timetable would be enforced, noting that monitoring teams would be deployed to ensure compliance.
Education stakeholders have described the directive as timely and necessary to promote academic discipline and enhance learning outcomes across the state.
