The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has accused a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of engaging in what it described as double standards in his political dealings.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s spokesperson in the state, Abdulwaheed Babatunde, alleged that Saraki presents himself as an opposition figure in Kwara while allegedly seeking accommodation and benefits from the ruling party at the federal level.

Babatunde claimed that Saraki publicly identifies with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state but is, behind the scenes, supporting President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition in Abuja.

According to him, the allegations raise serious concerns about Saraki’s political sincerity and loyalty to his supporters.

He said the claims suggest hypocrisy and double-dealing, adding that such conduct undermines those who have continued to stand by the former senate president over the years.

The APC spokesperson urged Saraki to directly address the allegations instead of allowing what he termed attacks on those who raised the issue.

“Since Prof. Sulaiman Abubakar dropped the bombshell during a radio session, we have seen a well-coordinated attempt to smear his personality by some hirelings,” the statement reads.

“That’s very low and unwise, and what is expected of the former senate president is to clarify the issue because it is a weighty allegation.”

Babatunde further said Saraki owes both the public and his followers clarity, stressing that their loyalty is now in question.

He described the allegations as consistent with Saraki’s political history, asserting that they reflect a pattern of self-serving behaviour.

“It only confirms the vintage Saraki: cunning, deceptive, unprincipled, and loyal to himself alone,” Babatunde said.

The APC spokesperson also revisited Saraki’s emergence as Senate President in 2015, alleging that he betrayed party leadership and disrespected President Tinubu during the process.

He warned political actors in Abuja to be cautious in their dealings with the former senate president, claiming his record shows a lack of adherence to principles.

Babatunde added that the APC continues to grow in strength under Tinubu’s leadership, pointing to the performance of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as proof of the party’s popularity in the state.

“Whoever wants to affiliate with this winning team should do so boldly without playing hanky-panky or hide-and-seek,” he added.

He concluded that any attempt to enjoy the benefits of the ruling party while maintaining opposition politics elsewhere would be “treacherous and unacceptable.”
