Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered former All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen and councillors to immediately vacate all local government secretariats across the state, declaring their continued occupation illegal and in defiance of court rulings.

In a statewide broadcast on Monday, Governor Adeleke emphasized that the officials no longer have any legal authority to remain in office, having been removed through valid judicial processes.

He recalled that the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo nullified the APC-conducted local government elections in November 2022. This decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal on February 10, 2025, and reaffirmed on June 13, 2025.

In compliance with the court orders, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) conducted fresh local government elections on February 22, 2025. The newly elected chairmen and councillors were sworn in the following day and remain the only legitimate officeholders in the state’s local government secretariats.

Governor Adeleke noted that even the former APC officials had acknowledged in court that their tenure ended in October 2025, and their recent attempts to extend their stay only confirmed that they no longer hold a lawful mandate.

The governor accused the former officials of forcibly occupying the secretariats, allegedly with support from armed police personnel acting on the instructions of ex-governor Gboyega Oyetola. He also condemned reports that local government workers attempting to resume duties were assaulted and harassed, describing such actions as an abuse of power and a threat to democratic governance.

Governor Adeleke urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that his administration would uphold court judgments, restore legality at the grassroots level, and protect citizens’ rights.
