A former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has denied any involvement in the disappearance of social media commentator and critic, Abubakar Idris.
Ganduje described allegations linking him to the abduction as baseless and politically motivated. The commentator, a lecturer and online critic, was reportedly abducted on August 2, 2019, by unidentified gunmen as he drove into his home in Barnawa, Kaduna, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
During an interview on Arise Television on Friday, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai denied any role in the case, stating that Dadiyata had been critical of the Kano State government rather than Kaduna’s administration. He further cited a later confession by a police officer, allegedly posted from Kano, claiming involvement in the abduction.
In response, Ganduje, via a statement from his former Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, called the claims “reckless, unfounded, and a clear attempt to shift responsibility for an incident that occurred entirely within Kaduna State.”
Ganduje added that Dadiyata was widely known in Kaduna for his criticism of the state government and questioned the consistency of El-Rufai’s remarks, emphasizing that the family deserved closure rather than political blame-shifting.
