The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has apprehended at least 95 suspected criminals across all 18 local government areas of the state for various offences.
The corps said the arrests were carried out in collaboration with the Ondo State command of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Army.
State Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adeleye, disclosed the development on Sunday while speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital.
He added that the suspects were allegedly involved in crimes including kidnapping, theft, burglary, and illegal mining.
He named some of the suspects as Victor, 31; Jonathan, 34; Akpan, 35; Aliu, 27; Sanni, 20; Adeoye, 44; Ayodeji, 50; Abdullahi, 24; Doman, 25; Isaac, 20; Peter, 25; and Dada, 42.
Adeleye stated, “In recent weeks, security agencies in the state particularly Amotekun, the police, civil defence, and the DSS have intensified efforts to track suspected criminals, and these operations have produced very positive results.
“The 61 individuals arrested inside the trailer truck are still undergoing profiling, which will determine the next course of action following their assessment.”
“We have 19 suspects who violated the state’s laws and public order, three linked to farmer-herder anti-grazing conflicts, and 12 connected to kidnapping activities.
“The positive development is that some of the kidnapping suspects were arrested in the volatile Akure North Local Government Area, and we believe this will help restore peace, especially with ongoing joint security operations.”
