A cement-laden truck veered out of control on Monday, killing a traffic officer and two motorcyclists at Badagry Roundabout in Lagos.

The victims included an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on duty and two commercial motorcyclists who were waiting for passengers around 9:45 a.m.

Eyewitnesses said the truck lost control while approaching the busy junction, ploughing into the victims. An official of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps said the driver attempted to manoeuvre to reduce casualties, noting that more motorcyclists and vehicles could have been affected.

Confirming the incident, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Yusuf Sanni, said the driver had been arrested and taken to Badagry Police Station. He attributed the crash to loss of control and advised motorists to avoid the area.

Sanni added that the victims’ remains were deposited at a hospital mortuary, while the truck was impounded.

The Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, CSP Folajimi Agosile, confirmed that the driver remains in custody pending prosecution and will be arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court after investigations are concluded.

Officials of the FRSC, LASTMA, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force were seen clearing the expressway and restoring order following the fatal crash.
