The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping teachers with cutting-edge skills aimed at driving innovation and excellence across public secondary schools in the state.

Chairman of TESCOM, Victoria Peregrino, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday, stating that teacher transformation remains central to safeguarding Lagos State’s educational future and socio-economic progress.

“At TESCOM, we are deliberately retooling our teachers with digital competence, innovative pedagogy, and learner-centred methodologies essential for 21st-century education,” Peregrino said.

She explained that the commission has rolled out structured capacity-building frameworks focused on technology integration, competency-based instruction, adaptive teaching models, and continuous professional development across secondary schools statewide.

According to her, digital transformation is being institutionalised through practical training in virtual learning platforms, smart assessment systems, data analytics, and technology-enabled classroom management solutions.

“Digital learning is no longer optional; it is the foundation of relevant education in today’s interconnected economy,” she noted, adding that the initiative also includes measurable teacher-readiness benchmarks and infrastructure expansion.

Beyond digital competence, Peregrino said TESCOM is championing a pedagogical shift toward critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, ethical leadership, and resilience to prepare students for global competitiveness.

She further revealed that strategic partnerships with private sector players and development partners are strengthening mentorship programmes, industry-aligned curriculum innovation, and sustainable teacher upskilling.

“We are not pursuing reform for rhetoric, but for measurable impact,” she said, stressing that deliberate investment in teachers today would secure a future-ready workforce for Lagos State.
