The United States Mission to Nigeria has expanded its military support, strengthening a long-standing partnership aimed at boosting Nigeria’s counterterrorism capabilities.

In a statement shared via the U.S. Mission’s X handle on Wednesday, it was noted that in 2018, U.S. troops trained around 200 soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion in handling improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ambush response, and operational planning.

“The exercise reflected decades of cooperation focused on training, capacity building, and operational readiness,” the mission said.

According to the statement, approximately 100 U.S. military personnel arrived in Nigeria this week to provide additional training and technical assistance, highlighting ongoing collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
