ABDUCTED IBADAN SCHOOLGIRL RELEASED AFTER 13 DAYS IN CAPTIVITY

A 12-year-old girl, Munachi Umenyi, who was abducted in Ibadan, has been released and reunited with her family.

A family source confirmed her release to PUNCH Online on Wednesday night.

Umenyi was kidnapped on February 12 at around 7:20 a.m. in the Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo State, while being dropped off for school.

According to reports, the abductors arrived in a vehicle without a number plate, attacked her as she stepped out of the car taking her to her private secondary school, and forcibly took her away.

The masked assailants reportedly snatched the girl from the driver at the junction near her school.

Witnesses reported that the assailants fired shots into the air and at the vehicle’s tyres before fleeing with the girl.

A family source confirmed her release in a message, saying, “In thanksgiving to God, we announce the safe release of Munachi Umenyi. God be praised. Thank you all for your prayers, support, and encouragement. Remain blessed.”

Sources revealed that a ransom was paid for Munachi Umenyi’s release, though the amount was not disclosed.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the command was not yet aware of her release but had made significant progress in its investigation.

After the abduction, the police had urged the public to remain calm and share any useful information, assuring that all tips would be handled with strict confidentiality.
