The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, following the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, which replaced the 2022 Electoral Act.

According to the revised schedule, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, 16th January 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are rescheduled to Saturday, 6th February 2027.

The Commission also announced that the Osun State Governorship election, previously slated for 8th August 2026, will now take place on 15th August 2026.

INEC stated that the conduct of party primaries, including dispute resolution arising from primaries, will run from 23rd April to 30th May 2026. Campaign activities for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on 19th August 2026, while campaigns for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will commence on 9th September 2026.

The Commission emphasized that, by law, campaigns must end 24 hours before Election Day, urging political parties to strictly adhere to the timelines.

While some activities for the Ekiti and Osun Governorship elections have already been conducted, INEC said that all remaining activities will be implemented in strict accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026, in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

In a statement, Malam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, called on all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections that reflect the sovereign will of Nigerians.

The Commission also confirmed that the revised timetable and schedule of activities are available on its official website and communication platforms.
