In a major step toward international recognition, the General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency (LSMTL), Engr. Olayinka Abdul, has officially signed the Agency’s Laboratory Quality Policy Statement, reinforcing its commitment to achieving ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation.

The event, held on Thursday, 26 February 2026, in Engr. Abdul’s office with all agency personnel in attendance, marked a pivotal moment in LSMTL’s accreditation journey. While the exercise was initially conducted in April 2025, the formal signing today underscored the importance of leadership visibility in driving quality assurance.

Speaking at the occasion, Engr. Abdul highlighted the transformative potential of the accreditation drive, noting that stakeholders and clients have consistently commended the agency’s operations as being at par with international best practices in materials testing.

Following the signing, all agency personnel appended their signatures to the Code of Conduct, signaling a unified commitment to ethical practice and operational excellence.

The Laboratory Quality Policy Statement emphasizes several critical pillars, including:

Impartiality and Integrity: All testing and calibration activities will be conducted free from commercial, financial, or other pressures that could compromise technical judgment, ensuring results remain objective and trustworthy.

Compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017: The agency is committed to meeting all management and technical requirements of the standard, including method validation, equipment calibration, and process control.

Customer Focus: Personnel are required to prioritize clients’ requirements while maintaining confidentiality, ensuring timely and reliable test results for both government and private sector clients.

Human Capital Development: Staff members will receive necessary skills, training, and awareness to perform competently, reinforcing the quality chain.

Continuous Improvement: The policy mandates regular internal audits, management reviews, and corrective actions to maintain a dynamic and responsive quality management system.

Engr. Abdul expressed gratitude to Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and support, stating, “Our commitment today is a testament to his vision, and we are encouraged that the public already acknowledges our operations as being at par with global best practices.”

Engr. Wale Akinsanya, Director of Laboratory Services, explained the technical groundwork supporting policy implementation, noting that specialized teams have been formed to ensure all laboratory processes—from sample collection to results reporting, align with ISO 17025:2017 requirements. He stressed that accreditation is a collective responsibility across all units.

With the Quality Policy and Code of Conduct now formally adopted, LSMTL will intensify internal audits, method validation exercises, and staff training in preparation for external assessments by accreditation bodies.

Achieving ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation will position LSMTL as a globally recognized center for materials testing, enhancing confidence in Lagos State’s infrastructure projects and fostering opportunities for international collaboration.
