48 CHILD TRAFFICKING CASES REPORTED IN GOMBE — GOVERNOR SPEAKS OUT

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has raised the alarm over a rising wave of child trafficking and insecurity in the state, revealing that 48 children have reportedly been taken to unknown destinations.
Speaking on Friday during the distribution of Ramadan palliatives, the governor said the abducted children, aged between two and five, were taken out of the state, while their parents remain in Gombe. “From available records, 48 children have been taken to other parts of the world. We don’t know if they will be found,” he said.
Yahaya linked recent security challenges to the partial relaxation of the motorcycle ban in some areas, citing a recent abduction incident at Orji Estate, where a young boy was thankfully rescued.
He stressed the need for urgent action to address emerging threats and protect residents. “We must take serious measures to tackle these threats and restore peace in the state,” he said, adding that Nigerians must reflect on why security has deteriorated compared to the past.

The governor also announced that 70,000 residents will benefit from this year’s Ramadan palliative food distribution programme, part of his administration’s ongoing efforts since 2019 to support vulnerable citizens. The initiative targets the physically challenged, religious organizations, orphanages, party support groups, and other vulnerable members of society.
“This programme reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that no member of society is left behind,” Yahaya said, describing Ramadan as a season of mercy, compassion, and shared responsibility. He noted that the initiative is part of a wider set of social interventions aimed at easing economic hardship and improving living standards, including community empowerment and humanitarian assistance.
To ensure fairness, a Palliative Distribution Committee has been established to oversee the programme, with the governor urging members to act with integrity, compassion, and accountability. He also called on philanthropists, corporate organisations, religious bodies, and development partners to complement government efforts in supporting the needy during the fasting period.
Highlighting the convergence of Ramadan with the Christian Lenten season, Yahaya said it serves as a reminder of shared values such as compassion, generosity, and love for humanity, urging citizens to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He further called on residents to pray for the nation and for Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he navigates ongoing reforms. “May Almighty Allah accept our fasting, prayers, and acts of charity,” he concluded, wishing Gombe residents and Nigerians a peaceful and rewarding Ramadan.
Reacting, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government Areas, Sani Haruna, praised the governor for prioritising vulnerable citizens and assured that the palliatives would reach those who genuinely need them.
