The Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board has reassured the public that the first batch of 294 Christian pilgrims from the state in Israel are safe and secure, despite escalating military tensions in the Middle East involving Israel and the United States against Iran.

In a statement on Sunday, Executive Secretary Wanson Bagu said the welfare and protection of the pilgrims remain the Board’s top priority. He noted that comprehensive safety measures are in place through coordination with Israeli authorities, the Nigerian Embassy, and other security agencies.

Bagu confirmed that the pilgrims are participating in their spiritual activities within designated safe zones under continuous surveillance, with the Board providing real-time updates to families back home.

The Board also disclosed that the pilgrims have moved to Jordan in preparation for their return to Nigeria, and airline arrangements are being finalised to ensure a smooth journey.

To support the pilgrims spiritually and emotionally amid the uncertainties, the Board is facilitating worship gatherings, prayer sessions, counselling, and has medical personnel on standby to address any health needs.

Rev. Bagu thanked Nigerians and the church community for their prayers and urged the public to remain calm, stressing that the Board remains committed to transparency and will provide updates as necessary.

The assurance comes amid rising concerns from families and communities following recent developments in the region.
