One person was killed and two others injured when armed bandits attacked a Civil Protection Guard checkpoint in Abaji Town, located in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

The victim, 43-year-old Aondohemba Kavee, was shot during the attack, while Orgase Nyikya and a passerby, Tyolumum Tsenongu, sustained gunshot wounds.

“Armed bandits attacked a Civil Protection Guard checkpoint at Abaji Town in Katsina-Ala LGA, killing one person and injuring two others,” Makama wrote. “The injured were rushed to Katsina-Ala General Hospital for treatment, and the deceased was taken to the hospital mortuary.”

He added that Army personnel and other security forces responded quickly, cordoning off the area and apprehending two suspects connected to the assault, while authorities continue to pursue other fleeing gang members.

Attempts to reach the state police spokesperson, Udeme Edet, for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of reporting.

The media had earlier reported in February that renewed attacks in Apa Local Government Area left two people dead, underscoring the persistent security challenges affecting communities in Benue State.
