NIGERDOCK PARTNERS WITH SHIPPING FIRM ON 45-YEAR SNAKE ISLAND DEAL

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has entered a 45-year sub-concession agreement with Nigerdock to develop, operate, and maintain an exclusive 30-hectare container terminal at Snake Island Port, Lagos.

The announcement was made by Kevin Johnson-Azuara, Chief Marketing Officer of Nigerdock, in a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Thursday.

According to the statement, the terminal is slated for completion by 2028 and will feature a 910-meter quay, six ship-to-shore cranes, two ship berths, three barge berths, and a draft of up to 18 meters.

Commenting on the partnership, Nigerdock CEO Maher Jarmakani said, “We are excited to advance our collaboration with MSC to establish a world-class container terminal at Snake Island Port. This partnership provides the world’s leading shipping line with a base in Nigeria and attracts significant foreign direct investment to boost growth in the maritime and logistics sector.”

Earlier, MSC President Diego Aponte stated, “Completing this critical phase in the development of the Snake Island Container Terminal with Nigerdock and our trusted partners reflects MSC Group’s commitment to delivering outstanding service to our customers in Nigeria and across Africa.

“The new terminal will create opportunities, improve operational efficiency, and position Snake Island Port as a leading global shipping hub. Alongside our other long-term investments in Nigeria, it will generate numerous local jobs and substantially boost economic revenue and resilience.”

Snake Island Port is an 85-hectare facility operated by Nigerdock, comprising three terminals that have significantly enhanced the capacity and operations of Lagos Port.
